Packing and Meme

So, I'm almost done packing for our holiday in Normandy. I'm actually quite excited which has never been the case before (beach = boring, picnics on the beach when the wind is blowing = yummy, I'm eating sand). But this time, I have packed films and games and many many books and it will be fun! I plan on walking along the beach with my mum every morning, and we're going to go horseback riding which is always wonderful.
Packing was almost fun as well since my sister wanted to listen to Dracula with me and I was actually allowed to sing. She's been objecting to my singing a lot less lately. Yesterday, I even sang
laliandra 's BOOMDEYADA Black Arthur song and translated it for her.
LITTLE SISTER: Oh my God. Who invented this?
ME: Lal did. (Everybody knows lal. I always tell tales about lal and blame her endlessly!)
LITTLE SISTER: You're all crazy! ... Tell her I like the song.
So, lal, I'm telling you!
Also, I still have to do this meme
eternal_vows did some time ago.

1. What is your favorite kind of dance (when you're the one doing it)?
I don't really like to dance at all. I do love to watch other people dance, as in professional dancers, and we once had a tv show over here where awesome professional dancers did standard and latino dances with people like actors and singers and people noone really knew but were supposed to be famous. That was a pretty awesome show! But this question is about me dancing! Only I don't do it that much, because I never learned to dance, and I'm not one for random jiggling and wiggling. One day, I would like to take lessons when I may have a boyfriend... maybe. :D And I would really like to be able to dance the Jive and the Quickstep. The Quickstep above all! Because I think it is crazy and looks cool and all!
2. What is an instrument you play? (If you don't play an instrument: What is an instrument you wish you could play?)
I play the transverse flute a little (which, the dictionary just told me, is also called the German flute - how fitting!) because I took some lessons for two or three years when I was younger. I gave that up when we moved to France though because I didn't like the teacher at all and there were no other ones near us. I want to start taking piano lessons because I sing and I want to be able to accompany myself. An instrument I think is really beautiful is the cello and I used to want to learn that, but now I've settled on the piano. So, at the moment the instrument I'm best at is probably my own voice. :)
3. Do you ever suffer from stage fright? (If yes, how did you combat it? If no, why not?)
Well, not fright. It's a pleasant feeling of nervousness and excitement, and I don't have to do anything to combat it. I just take deep breaths, tell myself that I can do it, and when I'm on stage, the nervousness quickly gives way to concentration. (BTW, when I notice I'm thinking on stage, then I know there's something wrong.) Before our last show of The Tempest, I was more nervous than before due to the fact that we had a gap of three weeks between two shows. And then I suddenly realised I didn't know my lines anymore! But they came back to me and everything went well. Another thing due to which I rarely have real stage fright: once I've learned my lines, they're etched into my memory, always there, ready to be said.
4. What is the clumsiest thing you have ever done?
Oh dear, that is hard. I always tell people stories of how stupid I am, but when specifically asked for something, I never know! I always stump my toes trying to maneuver around the shelf and the bedposts at the same time, and I trip over steps all the time. I once cut my leg on a drawer (it was a plastic drawer with a sharp edge!), but that is stuff I do all the time. But there was one occasion when I was really tired and wanted to watch the men's figure-skating from the Olympics I recorded that day in bed, relaxing with a cup of tea. A ring binder with all kinds of stuff from school lay on the floor beside my bed, waiting to be stowed away later. I reached for the tea on my nightstand, drank, and then put the still almost full cup back on the nightstand- only not. And then half of my room was soaked in tea. Including all the school stuff from my ring folder.
5. What kind of domestic animal scares you the most? Why?
I used to be really scared of boarhounds when I was a kid, probably due to the fact that I was a very small kid and those dogs were taller than I was. My mum once sent me to buy something in the supermarket, but there was a boarhound standing in front of it, and I just couldn't work up the nerve to walk by him, so I went back home. Now I've turned into a real dog person and cats seem to hate me, but I'm not scared of them. I'd probably say tarantulas or big snakes. Animals that just gaze at you with their weird hungry eyes... pretty scary.

Date: 2010-07-09 05:14 pm (UTC)My piano teacher also teaches opera. I did not know it, until I stumbled in on a girl singing to my piano teacher's piano music. But, it was very impressive. I cannot sing on-key, and haven't actually sang since I was nine.
But. Aside from reading C&H and watching LotR, you can sing, and I can play piano! (If there is a piano around. If I can still remember how to play, because my mother is stopping piano lessons when I get my diploma, which is when I'm fifteen. And I am not known for practicing on my own time.)
You are a brave person. I am scared of most everything. And I get dreadful stage fright, and I forget a lot of the stuff I memorize.
(I have walked into a screen door before. Hell, I have walked into two closed doors before...the same one...in the same night. Me, hand-coordination? Nah.)

Date: 2010-07-09 06:20 pm (UTC)My singing teacher teaches opera, but that is probably not astounding, seen as she is... a singing teacher. I've heard her sing something from an opera or something, and it's really quite impressive! I still have a long way to go till I can sing like this, if ever.
Yes, we are going to do loads of cool stuff when we actually meet each other! Do not forget how to play the piano! This is important!
I'm not really brave, just concerning some thing. I'm horribly jumpy though, for example, and as I said in my Day 25 post, I'm pretty shy on some occasions. But stage fright, not so much, at least not when I'm not on the stage as myself.
