How Puck Is Like Damon. And Damon Like Puck. And Stuff.
I have a headache. This has not stopped me from doing my political science paper, finishing two books and watching tons of episodes of GLEE. And it will not stop me from blogging! (Why not, I hear you all groan in unison.) But first, let me tell you that the best way to counteract an oppressiveness-induced headache is definitely hanuta + cappucino.
So, today you have tuned in to read about my random thoughts about the first episode of the second season of Vampire Diaries. And about my wild comparisons between Vampire Diaries and GLEE. Wich are totally founded on scientific research and stuff!
Okay, watch out now. For [SPOILERS] for Vampire Diaries and GLEE.
I was rather disappointed by the Vampire Diaries episode. I had been waiting for it for two months after that huge and evil cliffhanger, and then I get 40 minutes of schmoopy nonsense about Katherine being in love with Stefan? I mean, are they serious? I thought Katherine had an Evil Plan of Ultimate Evil that brought her back to the town, and now I don't know if there is one and she's just trying to fool us, or if they really want me to believe in her Eternal And Undying Love for Stefan. I hope not.
Aaaanyway. My esteem for Elena has sunk to about zero. She's always so well-meaning and honest! Which goes a bit like this:
DAMON: My eternal life is a mess. The girl I've been looking for for hundreds of years obviously doesn't have any interest in me. The girl I've just fallen in love with is in love with my brother. Then I thought she was in love with me until it turned out that it wasn't actually her I had kissed. *mopes*
ELENA: Hey Damon, what's up? You feeling alright there?
DAMON: Yeah, everything's just splendid!
ELENA: Oh come on, I know you're just trying to hide your misery! I mean, you must be totally miserable. You're in love with me, I'm in love with Stefan (forever and ever), doesn't that just feel horrible?
DAMON: Nope, perfectly fine.
ELENA: Really? Well, I don't think so. You thought I kissed you when really it was Katherine and when really I would never ever kiss you back! Never ever, you hear?
DAMON: Yeah, got your point, move along please.
ELENA: I just want us to be perfectly clear that I love Stefan and that you stand no chance with me, alright? There, I think I've rubbed it in well enough now! Got to get going, bye-bye!
DAMON: I think I may just kill Elena's brother, seen as he can't really be killed because of this protective ring he has. It's what I've learned in my anti-aggression lessons! Let it out, don't harm anyone permanently!
ELENA: I hate Damon! He goes walking about killing people for no apparent reason at all! He's so. EVIL.
Well, I actually think Elena's the mean one of the two. Lately, I get the impression that Damon is actually trying to be nice because he desperately wants to be liked. Especially by Elena, but not exclusively by her. He's not really all that evil. I think he knew quite well that Jeremy had the ring on, and otherwise he wouldn't have killed him. He's just trying to put on the evil Damon, going about and harming people so they don't realise how hurt he is. But whereas he ruthlessly killed people in the beginning, he's now doing relatively harmless stuff. It all makes me want to give Damon a hug.
What I really don't get about this is why the girls all fall for Stefan. (I don't understand why the guys all fall for Elena, either.) Stefan, as the good guy, has everything, and Damon is kind of left out, but they all expect him to handle it in a reasonable and nice way, just because Stefan's always nice. Today, on GLEE, there was a scene where Puck got really angry because „Finn gets everything! He gets the girl...“. A bit more background story is maybe needed for those who don't know GLEE. Quinn is Finn's girlfriend, and she's pregnant. She's been telling everybody that Finn's the father, but it's actually Puck. Puck is a bit of a jerk, sleeping with everything on two legs which he esteems hot, but he's also trying very hard to be a good guy and to convince Quinn that he would make a good daddy. I thought the parallels between him and Damon were really striking. Everyone thinks they're the jerks, and although they try to play nice and by the rules of the nice people, they never quite manage and even get punished for it. There's always this other guy who gets the girl, the popularity...
Damon and Puck are both very impulsive, and that's their fault. I just think that it's unfair that they are not given chances. Someone who is trying so hard should be offered that opportunity, and not be constantly trod on. It's something that annoys me very much, that people are pressed into these roles and never get the chance to show that they can be someone else, and I feel like this is kind of a tv phenomenon.
But I think I get a little too worked up about this. :) Therefore, I will get worked up about something else tomorrow! Namely about French literature. Which sounds very sophisticated, but actually isn't. What I actually meant to say: blog post about L'art and The Hound of Baskervilles tomorrow.
